So I've been to Spain and I've seen a bull. Although I have once been attacked, charged, and trodden upon by a mad cow, I have not had the opportunity to run with a bull. However, I was able to experience the same type of experience this morning on my frantic race to get to class on time here is the story...
Utah State University has a bus system for students (who after a couple months of walking to class become lazy.) I always try to walk to class when I have time but lately I have been finding it difficult to get out of bed a whole 5 minutes earlier to walk to class (it must have something to do with my warm blankets and my cold apartment.) Although the bus system is great, the arrival times are different everyday and it's a guessing game of whether or not the bus will be there at the time specified in the pamphlet. Well this morning as I walk out of my apartment and turn the corner towards the intersection I see about half a block up that the bus has pulled up and is now accepting passengers. Thrilled to know that I might actually make it to class on time I start walking at a brisker pace, that is until I realize that the light at the intersection is about to change which would legally prohibit my crossing to the other side where the bus is located.
At this moment I start to run.
Although I had spent the morning flat ironing my hair and trying to look good, my attractiveness had just been detrimentally damaged; for no one can run attractively whilst carrying a backpack full of books.
With my backpack throwing off my balance I start running across the intersection at the moment the light turns yellow. Now not only do I look like a nerdy drunkard who can't run straight but I also am crossing a crosswalk where the red hand has stopped blinking and is firmly held high to signal "don't walk."
As I reached the sidewalk the last person stepped on the bus and the doors closed...don't worry I thought the same thing "well I'm going to get left." Don't worry I didn't; but I did have to run the rest of the way and climb on the bus with the driver smiling and everyone looking at me like I had wasted 30 seconds of their life.
For some people it would have ruined their day but for me it made mine better, not only did it give me an excuse to physically laugh at myself but I also thought "I just made all those peoples day at the intersection because they saw me running like a crazy woman towards the bus."
And that my friends is my experience with The Running of the Buses
